Easily mounted to Burkert's Type 6022, 6023 or 6223 continuous solenoid control valves, controller series provides continuous process control of liquids and gases

Burkert USA (Irvine, CA) has introduced a new line of low cost, versatile plug-on proportional integral (PI) controllers for solenoid continuous control of level, flow, temperature, or pressure in liquids and gases. "One other manufacturer that I'm aware of has a proportional control solenoid valve. However, our valve has that plug-on controller right on it, meaning it will do the control and immediately communicate with the valve," says Andy Harris, VP of marketing at Burkert. "Ours is a completely functional, embedded-intelligence product. So rather than just another ‘dumb' solenoid valve, it's a continuous solenoid control system."

The controllers, Type 8623-2, 8624-2 and 8625-2, are easily mounted to Burkert's Type 6022, 6023 or 6223 0.25 inch to 1 inch solenoid valves or any DIN 43 650A-compatible proportional solenoid valve, providing "ready-to-use" (plug-and-play) programmable control. "You don't need a PLC, you don't have to program it, etc. You plug it in, give it a set point, and it works," Harris said. "Obviously, these controllers aren't going to be used in sanitary conditions, but rather as low-cost answers for controlling temperature, pressure, or flow in ‘utility' conditions."

Burkert's new units directly accept industry standard signals from process sensors (flow, level, pressure or temperature) to provide a complete control loop through "Easy Link," a Burkert innovation that allows valves to connect directly to a sensor, resulting in an autonomous control loop.

Integration with a polyimide NEMA 4 housing allows direct connection to continuous solenoid control valves. The microprocessor–based, self-supporting, programmable controller mounts directly on the solenoid valve. The unit features an easy-to-read LED analog display and three push buttons for:

Controller set points can also be set locally or remotely via the unit's standard 4-20 mA or 0-10V external signal input. The controller then compares the set point to the sensor input reading and automatically adjusts the solenoid valve position to maintain the process set point.

The new controller series consists of three versatile models: Type 8623-2 Flow Controller with two frequency inputs for flow sensors; Type 8624-2 Pressure and Level Controller using a standard 4-20mA input signal; Type 8625-2 Temperature Controller with an RTD (PT 100) sensor input.

The Type 8624-2 Pressure and Level Controller controls the pressure or level of flowing gases and liquids using a standard 4-20 mA input signal from a pressure or level transmitter. Applications include:

The 8623-2 controls flow and the mixing ratio of two liquids using two frequency inputs for flow sensors (Burkert Types 8025, 8030 and 8035). Applications include control of:

Type 8625-2 controls mixing temperature of various fluids using an RTD sensor input from a Burkert temperature sensor, type ST20 or ST21. Applications include control of:

The three controllers are available from stock. In addition, Burkert offers a variety of sensors, process valves, actuators, and solenoid valves for complete control loop packages. All units are NEMA 4 rated.
